Rise to Teach supports diverse teacher candidates, offering future teachers a tuition-free path to earn a bachelor’s degree, starting at Portland Community College (PCC) and finishing at Portland State University (PSU). The program focuses on recruiting culturally diverse, underrepresented students into the K-12 teaching profession. After earning their bachelor’s degree at PSU, students receive fifty percent tuition assistance when transitioning to the Graduate Teacher Education Program or the Licensure in Elementary Education Program in the College of Education at PSU.
This program is built on the legacy of the Portland Teacher Program. It was a grassroots effort that arose from the efforts of many in the Black community to build a teacher workforce that reflects the diversity of the students and leads to better outcomes for students of color. It is a collaboration between PSU, PCC, Beaverton School District, and Portland Public Schools.
All Rise to Teach students commits to applying for teaching positions at Portland Public Schools and Beaverton School District after they graduate. More than 90 percent of the students in the program are first-generation college students.
Your gift can help fund student stipends, emergency/hardship funds, testing and licensing fees, job fair attendance, licensure fees, and books.
