The Center for Black Studies moves the classroom into the community. This year, in partnership with PSU's Higher Education in Prison program, a cohort of incarcerated students earn PSU credits in courses taught at the Oregon State Penitentiary by BST faculty. Many of them have said before this program that they didn't think college was an option for them or for people like them.
After three terms, they have completed courses for our new Certificate in Black Studies and are on their way toward the bachelor's degree. While our class materials are rigorous, our faculty works to include creativity in our courses, where students explore topics through different lenses.
Some images above are OSP students' final creative projects from a class exploring community development and historic organizing in the Black community.
By investing in the Center for Black Studies, you can play a critical role in developing opportunities for undergraduates on and off campus to gain intersectional experiences in research and outreach that strengthen our community for a better tomorrow.
Your support can change everything.
